UBIT SECURITY ALERT, 3/24/22

Email phishing alert - Do not click 'URGENT STUDENT NOTICE!' email

IT Security Alert.

An email comes from a UB address with the subject line "URGENT STUDENT NOTICE!" It claims an important document is pending verification by all students, and includes a large link with the words "CLICK HERE."

Red flags: How you can tell it is a fake

  1. The message is generic. It references an "important document" and claims that "every student" must respond, without mentioning the recipient by name.
  2. Spelling and grammar errors. Some sentences in the message are not capitalized; the message also includes a nonstandard expression "have a view at."

I already clicked the link. What should I do?

  • If clicked on the link, but did not enter your password, please check that your computer security or anti virus program is on and up to date.

I did not click on the attachment. What should I do?
