How Services Dashboard Status Is Determined

The UBIT Alert Dashboard indicators are displayed according to definitions for each service category represented.

Email

The Email indicator shows an overall status condition for UBmail for Faculty and Staff, UBmail for Students  and numerous supporting services such as incoming virus scanning, email forwarding and LISTSERV®

Email services are running normally. Report a problem

One or more of the following incidents is having a significant impact on the service(s):

  • One or a subset of inbound or outbound email servers are down
  • Any one of the UBmail services is in a degraded or down condition
  • Email is blocked or backlogged by an outside domain
  • LISTSERV® service is disrupted

One or more of the following incidents is having a widespread impact on the service(s):

  • A large network event or campus-wide emergency
  • Most of the inbound email servers are down or performance of all inbound email servers is significantly degraded
  • A problem exists that prevents you from reading your email
  • The SMTP (outbound) email servers or load balancer, are down or performance is degraded

HUB

The HUB indicator shows the availability status of UB’s Student Information System, HUB, for student, faculty and staff access to academic records, advising, admissions, schedules and financial aid information.

HUB services are running normally. Report a problem

Performance of HUB reported at below average levels
HUB production services are not available

InfoSource

The InfoSource indicator shows an overall status condition for UB’s central data repository.

The UB InfoSource service is running normally. Report a problem

Performance of UB InfoSource reported at below average levels
UB InfoSource production services not available

Login

The Login indicator shows an overall status of UB’s central authentication and authorization systems, for example UBITName logins. 

Login services are running normally. Report a problem

An incident or problem is causing service disruption or brief delays in UB’s login services, but logins are completing successfully

An incident is causing an outage or significant degradation of one or more of the following:

  • UBITName login
  • Radius logins
  • UBLDAP service

MyUB

The MyUB indicator shows the availability status of UB’s information portal for faculty, staff and students.

MyUB services are running normally. Report a problem

An incident or problem is causing MyUB to load or process information slowly from your browser or a component of MyUB is not functioning properly

MyUB services or modules are currently unavailable

Network

The Network indicator shows an overall status condition for all UB networks. This includes the UB backbone, UB’s Internet connections, building distribution segments, local segments, networks supporting telephones (using VoIP) and all CIT managed Wi-Fi networks.

Network services are running normally. Report a problem

A network outage is causing a localized service impact to a small number of people (2 to 50) or people are experiencing a degradation of network performance, for example, slowness

A multi-network outage is causing widespread service impact to a large number of people (>50)

Phones

The Phones service indicator shows an overall status condition for UB’s voice communication services, including current (VoIP) and legacy telephone systems.

Phone services are running normally. Report a problem

Phone services are degraded; an incident or problem is causing an impaired service impact for people, but calls are delivered successfully 

Examples might include;

  • Slow dial tone
  • Busy signals due to congestion
  • Delays to status indicator updates

Phone services or major subsystems are currently unavailable; one or more of the following incidents is having a widespread impact on the service(s):

  • People cannot place or receive calls
  • People experience dropped calls
  • Voicemail messages are not delivered
  • Message Waiting Indicators are not operating correctly

SIRI

The SIRI indicator shows an overall status condition for UB’s Strategic Information Reporting Initiative tool (siri.buffalo.edu)

The SIRI service is running normally. Report a problem

Performance of SIRI reported at below average levels

SIRI production services not available

UB Learns

The UB Learns indicator shows the availability status of UB’s learning management system (Blackboard Learn) and related services:  UB on iTunes U, UB Learns Setup Tool.

UB Learns services are running normally. Report a problem

One or more of UB Learns modules are degraded or unavailable causing delays in usage or system errors;  collaboration services are unavailable

UB Learns services or modules are currently unavailable; UB Learns is effectively inoperative

Web Hosting

The Web Hosting indicator shows the availability status of UB’s public Web hosting services, such as UBCMS, UB Containers as a Service, UB WordPress and personal home pages on UBfs.

Web services are running normally. Report a problem

An incident or problem is causing the websites hosted on one or more of UB’s publicly available Web hosting services to load slowly in Web browsers

Websites hosted on UB's publicly available Web hosting service(s) are unavailable; pages are not loading in Web browsers and apps.
