Print Technician Student Assistant

A Print Technician (Print Tech) provides general service support for the UB Print Anywhere (Powered by Wepa) printing service.

Application Process

Please read carefully. We believe that reading and following instructions is an important skill for UBIT student assistants.

If we offer you a position, you must:

  • Attend mandatory job training  
  • Be a registered student
  • Have a valid NYS drivers license
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Not work anywhere else at UB while employed by us, including but not limited to a position as a TA, GA, Research Assistant, FSA position or any other position at UB
  • Be available to work for at least two (2) semesters after the current semester, and from the first day of classes through the last day of finals in each semester. This is in addition to working the current semester until the last day of finals.

Position Description

A Print Tech maintains the printing service within service levels, including maintaining printers and escalating problems, to ensure quick service to patrons, including:

  • Supplying print kiosks with paper and toner
  • Responding to alerts and other issues affecting print kiosks
  • Maintaining inventory of printing supplies and parts
  • Driving a van to service remote location with supplies and parts
  • Providing customer service to patrons about printing

Print Techs also support the Level Up computing site and gaming space, including the loaning of equipment, assisting with reservations, clearing spaces, as well as other tasks needed for that service.

Service hours are from 8 a.m. – 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and 12 p.m. – Midnight Saturday and Sunday during the semester. Holiday and Break hours vary.

Pay rate is $15 per hour.

Printer Techs are expected to work at least 10 hours per week and no more than 20 hours per week during the semester. Summer work may be available, but is not guaranteed.

Selection Process

Applying for a Print Tech position is a competitive process. Selection is based on your technical skills and on your ability to deliver service to customers effectively.

Personal Interview:

  • Qualified applicants will be offered a personal interview based on their application.
  • Interviews are given by appointment weekdays.
  • If you are selected for an interview, we will notify you by email about the date, time, and location.
  • Interview appointments will be based on availability you provide.
  • Additional interviews may be required.

Hiring Decision:

  • All applicants will be notified about the outcome of the selection process on a continual basis soon after their personal interview.
  • Those applicants hired will then be scheduled for training and a start date will be set.
