Network and Communications Systems Student Assistant

UBIT Network and Communications Systems (NCS) is looking for students to assist with customer order requests and troubleshooting for both telephone and network services. 

Responsibilities

VoIP Phone/Lines

  • Disconnect services
  • Troubleshoot and replace failed hardware

Network Requests

  • Provision and activate network ports
  • Install network switch equipment
  • Analyze and repair wiring issues
  • Identify new cabling requests as needed
  • Troubleshoot wireless login and connectivity issues
  • Perform wireless surveys and produce coverage heat maps

Requirements

  • Students must:
    • Be in good academic standing and maintain a 2.7 GPA during NCS employment.
    • Be available to work 15-20 hours per week during the semester, up to 29 hours per week over the summer
    • Lift and move hardware weighing up to 30 pounds
    • Ascend and descend a ladder
    • Differentiate colors used for standard wiring coding
    • Posses a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State
  • Knowledge of network and/or telecommunication concepts is a plus
  • This is a user-facing position; communication skills are vital when dealing with the campus community.
  • All necessary tools, equipment, and training will be provided.

Hours

Students may work in blocks of time between 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, with occasional early morning maintenance work when necessary.
