Modern-Tec Manufacturing

Modern Tec Manufacturing executive poses for a picture.

When a core customer of Modern-Tec Manufacturing mandated that suppliers be ISO 9001:2008 certified, management at the CNC machine shop in Cambria, N.Y., wasted no time. UB TCIE was tapped to be the outlet for achieving compliancy and a continued business relationship. President Christopher Matyas engaged the center’s quality management expertise to pinpoint the missing pieces at his company, which was founded in 2010 as a precision machining solutions provider serving numerous industries. With growing business in medical manufacturing, Matyas also learned what it would take to fulfill quality standards of the medical device sector through an ISO 13485 gap assessment.

The Approach

  • Identified discrepancies between Modern-Tec’s current management system and the ISO 9001:2008 standard
  • Established quality management system performance metrics
  • Provided guidance in meeting standard requirements
  • Conducted a second-party audit, after compliance gaps were resolved, to prepare for third-party auditing
  • Completed an ISO 13485 gap assessment

The Impact

  • Received ISO 9001:2008 certification, which has expanded business opportunities and eliminated time-consuming audits performed by existing and potential customers
  • Boosted on-time delivery performance to 95 percent, resulting in fewer customer complaints
  • Improved consistency and reduced errors with formal training
  • Bolstered production accountability and traceability
