"Assessments like STARS are helpful tools for the university to capture the good work happening across all schools and divisions on our campus. Through this process we take a close look at every component of the institution and identify opportunities to advance our sustainability at UB."
-Derek Nichols, Associate Director for Sustainability
In April of 2025, the University at Buffalo completed its fifth comprehensive, University-wide sustainability assessment through the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) of administered by the Association of Advancement for Sustainability in Higher Education.
Buoyed by higher scores in both academics and campus engagement, the University at Buffalo has again achieved a Gold rating in an international higher education sustainability measurement tool. UB continues to make advances in sustainability, from a silver rating in 2012, to our first gold in 2015, and then maintaining a gold in 2018 and 2022. This reflects the truly sustainable effort through our operations, teaching, research, and engagement with the community from every member of our campus.
