At the heart of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus in downtown Buffalo, the newly renovated Incubator @ CBLS—located inside the Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences—features modern, well-equipped co-working space, dedicated desks and offices of all sizes to suit your team's needs. Startups can also tap into state-of-the-art technology services and expertise in our lab space and scientific facilities.

Located in Amherst, the Incubator @ Baird gives startups easy access to expertise and amenities on UB's North Campus. Co-working and office spaces are available for teams of all sizes, along with affordable lab space and scientific amenities.

ELIGIBILITY AND ASSESSMENT PROCESS

Submit an inquiry when you're ready to work with an experienced team and build business collaborations.

Individuals or companies interested in support, including membership in an incubator, will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • A business model with potential market and an opportunity for the startup to achieve positive cash flow and a sustainable advantage in the marketplace.
  • Founders who:
    • Commit to the growth of the startup in the Western New York region
    • Leverage innovation in their business venture, are bold thinkers, dreamers and doers.
    • Value diversity, inclusion and equity.  We know that diverse teams bring different ideas and experiences that helps them be more innovative and successful.
    • Will connect and collaborate with other entrepreneurs, UB students, and mentors.
    • Want to pay it forward – hey it takes an ecosystem – while you may need help now, you also have expertise you can offer to help other entrepreneurs
  • Potential to create new jobs in Western New York and/or advance equity in the region
  • The adequacy of the start-up funds that are readily available
  • The impact of the startup’s activities on existing incubator clients
  • Current or interest in collaborating with one or more of the Innovation Hub partners on innovation, technology development, talent (student engagement) and more

All inquiries will be reviewed by our Startup Ventures team. We will follow up, likely to schedule an assessment meeting to learn more about your venture and determine if our programs and services are a good fit. Then we will put you in contact with the Incubator Operations team to review space options, schedule a tour and discuss details.

  • Incubator staff will notify you of your acceptance and provide your membership or lease agreement.
  • For dedicated desks, office space and lab space, prior to moving in, your company must show proof that your business carries a general liability insurance policy in the amount of $1,000,000 combined single limit for bodily injury or property damage.
  • EPA ID: Clients dealing with hazardous materials must possess an effective U.S. Environmental Protection Agency identification number.

INCUBATOR SPOTLIGHT

Staff of Apech Labs.

Apech Labs, a company that develops advanced mechatronics solutions for space, aerospace, defense and energy markets, makes its home at UB's Incubator @ Baird. Apech has grown from one employee to 11 and expanded the company’s workspace to include a wet lab, a prototype area and a machine shop, all at Baird. Major contracts have followed, including several from NASA.

BEP Incubator @ Baird laboratory tenant Ferric Contrast, Inc. licensed technology invented at UB to develop an injected contrast agent that’s effective for radiologists and safer for patients undergoing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). 

Pop Bio.

POP Biotechnologies (POP BIO), a UB spinout headquartered in BEP’s Incubator @ Baird, has developed a novel vaccine adjuvant used to make vaccines and drug treatments more effective. With support from BEP, the company has doubled its staff and secured more than $10 million in funding.
