Canget BioTekpharma receives FDA designations for drug candidate

Canget BioTekpharma, a Buffalo-based biopharma startup supported by UB Business and Entrepreneur Partnerships, has received two U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) designations for FL118, a potential anticancer therapeutic being developed for osteosarcoma.

The FDA granted the drug candidate both the Rare Pediatric Disease Designation and Orphan Drug Designation for the disease, which is a rare and aggressive bone cancer that most commonly affects children, adolescents and young adults.

These designations are intended to encourage development of therapies for rare and serious pediatric conditions where treatment options are limited.

Canget spun out of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, where FL118 was discovered by a team led by Fengzhi Li, PhD, founder of the company and associate professor of oncology in Roswell Park’s Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

UB Business and Entrepreneur Partnerships has supported Canget through the Career Experience Program, which connects UB students with hands-on opportunities, and through space and facilities at the Incubator @ CBLS.
