CSTEP alumni serve many valuable roles and help to expand our capacity and footprint. CSTEP Connect matches alumni with current students to share insights into their profession and career path. This 30-60 minute virtual mentoring opportunity offers an exciting way to advise students and support their career development.
CSTEP Connect takes place over a two-week period in January during UB’s winter session and again during the summer. Alumni mentors can connect with students for career/job advice and graduate or professional school advice. We expect the connections to be a one-time/30-60 minute commitment, but some alumni choose to continue serving as mentors.
CSTEP alums from all disciplines and professions are invited to volunteer as mentors.
Since connections are virtual (30-60 minutes), there are no geographical boundaries for alumni or students. Register and indicate the ways that you would like to serve as a mentor, and CSTEP will match you with a student. The connection will take place remotely via Zoom, Teams or a platform of your choosing.
Connections can occur any day during UB’s winter session, in January. Our application deadline is in early December. We are also planning to offer a second CSTEP Connect opportunity during the summer.
Volunteering to serve as an alum mentor for CSTEP Connect is an opportunity to mentor and positively impact current students in the pipeline. You can provide a different perspective on their major, career path and professional expectations. Volunteering is also a great way to give back to CSTEP and UB on your own terms.
