Modifications and Data Roles in Splunk

Splunk is a powerful search engine.  Enhancements and modifications may be made to the default monitoring provided to data stewards, but approval must be obtained from the appropriate security/privacy officials.

Data Stewards: The responsible University officials who have planning and policy-level responsibilities for data in their functional areas are considered data stewards. Data stewards, as individuals, have management responsibilities for defined elements of institutional data.  Data Stewards are responsible for performing the monitoring described in this document and for following up on alerts and improper data handling.

Data Users: Individuals who need and use University data as part of their assigned duties or in fulfillment of their role in the university community.
