Adobe titles retire from computing sites and teaching stations

Students work on public computers in Lockwood Library.

A 2014 change in Adobe's licensing has since prevented UBIT from updating Adobe  Acrobat Pro, Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Now that Adobe no longer supports these versions, they are retiring from UB's computing sites and teaching stations effective December 19, 2017. UBIT continues to offer software alternatives for PDF creation and image editing.

PDF creation: Windows 10 / MacOS 10.13

PDF creation is built into the ‘Print’ function in both Windows 10 and MacOS. In the Windows 10 print dialog window, select ‘Microsoft Print to PDF’ as your printer, hit ‘Print,’ and you will be asked to provide a name and save location for your new PDF.

In MacOS, you can also create a PDF version of your document in the print dialog menu by selecting the ‘PDF’ drop down menu, and then ‘Save as PDF’. MacOS also includes the Preview app, which has advanced features for creating and editing PDFs.

Photo editing: GIMP

GIMP is an open-source alternative to Photoshop that is available on public computing site workstations. GIMP includes many features also found in Photoshop, and can edit a large number of file types (including PDF).
