Being a member of a social fraternity or sorority is an opportunity to be part of something bigger than yourself. It opens doors far beyond your undergraduate experience, fosters a sense of belonging, and offers lasting friendships.
At UB there are several uniquely diverse councils: the College Panhellenic Council, Independent Fraternal Organizations, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the United Council of Cultural Fraternities and Sororities.
Come meet our organizations at Campus Fest during Welcome Weekend in the Fall, or at our Meet the Greeks event on the first day of classes to have your questions answered!
You are only eligible to participate in new member education, intake or initiation if you meet specific academic requirements, including:
Eligibility is verified through the Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life.
Step 1. Attend a University-sponsored Fraternity and Sorority Life Information Session. These events can be found on UBLinked.
Step 2. Once the session concludes, the Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life verifies the eligibility of all participants. The names of eligible individuals are passed on to all organizations.
If you are unable to attend the scheduled information sessions, please email stu-greeks@buffalo.edu

In the fall, our Panhellenic Sororities recruit through an informal process and can offer bids of membership at any time. Check UBLinked and the organization’s social media to view upcoming events.
In the spring, the Panhellenic Council hosts a formal recruitment process which occurs at the beginning of the semester. Formal Recruitment typically occurs from Friday through Monday, where potential new members (PNMs) visit each chapter on a specific schedule. They are assigned a Rho Gamma (recruitment guide) to help them through the process. Some Panhellenic organizations can accept new members after formal recruitment through Continuous Open Bidding (COB). Check UBLinked to view the recruitment events as well as the mandatory Formal Recruitment Orientation!
Registration, including a fee, is required for the formal recruitment process.
