Being a member of a social fraternity or sorority is an opportunity to be part of something bigger than yourself. It opens doors far beyond your undergraduate experience, fosters a sense of belonging, and offers lasting friendships.
At UB there are several uniquely diverse councils: the College Panhellenic Council, Independent Fraternal Organizations, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the United Council of Cultural Fraternities and Sororities.
Come meet our organizations at Campus Fest during Welcome Weekend in the Fall, or at our Meet the Greeks event on the first day of classes to have your questions answered!
You are only eligible to participate in new member education, intake or initiation if you meet specific requirements, including:
Eligibility is verified through the Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life.
Step 1. Complete the self-paced Fraternity and Sorority Life Information Session. This course is offered through VectorSolutions and will go live mid-June.
Step 2. Once you have completed the course, the Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life will verify your eligibility and communicate the names of eligible individuals to organizations.
If you need assistance in this process, please email stu-greeks@buffalo.edu.
There are a few different ways to join fraternities and sororities at UB. Each chapter and council have a unique process. Information on those processes can be found below:
Registration for Fall Recruitment will open in June.
In September, the Panhellenic Council has a formal recruitment process. Formal Recruitment occurs from Friday through Monday, and potential new members (PNMs) visit each chapter on a specific schedule. Each PNM is assigned a Rho Gamma (recruitment guide) to help them through the process. Some sororities may continue accepting new members after formal recruitment through Continuous Open Bidding (COB).
Check out UB Panhellenic Council on Instagram to view recruitment details!
In the spring, most Panhellenic Sororities recruit through an informal process. Check UBLinked and the organization’s social media pages to view those events.
