For a fraternity or sorority chapter to be recognized at the University at Buffalo, it must also be recognized by its headquarters. Chapters maintain University recognition by upholding the standards and expectations outlined for all fraternities and sororities. Below you’ll find a list of chapters that are currently recognized by the University at Buffalo, organized by council.
The National Panhellenic Council (NPC) identity centers on advancing the women’s-only sorority experience by fostering thriving communities based on belonging, collaboration, relevance, and respect. The NPC is committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and diverse community, and is guided by principles of sisterhood, leadership, service, and academic excellence.

The Fraternity Council is the governing body for fraternities affiliated with the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC), Fraternity Forward Coalition (FFC), as well as independent men’s chapters. These men’s-only fraternal organizations are built on the shared values of leadership, scholarship, and service. Joining a fraternity is an opportunity to make lifelong connections while developing skills that will serve you long after graduation.

The University at Buffalo features three Greek-letter honor societies for members of social fraternities and sororities. These organizations require applications, which are sent to rostered members each semester.
Provisional Groups are organizations that are working to become established on campus, sometimes referred to as colonies or emerging chapters. They will be hosting recruitment and informational sessions while working to gain full recognition.
Fraternity and Sorority Life does not provide advisement and coordination for the Greek-lettered academic fraternal organizations and honor societies. Please consult your academic department for available information.
