Synergistic Activities

  • Co-Editor of Themed Issue of Theory into Practice (Vol. 56, No. 4, 2017) around engineering and disciplinary literacy.
  • Developed 4 MOOC Courses that are part of the Coursera Digital Manufacturing and Design Technology  Specialization.  The courses have reached over 9,000 learners and are focused on increasing literacy in Industry 4.0 (e.g., the digital thread, digital twins, model-based system engineering) for an audience of small- to mid- sized manufacturers (including management, engineers, production workers, and the future workforce).
  • Leading an annual Engineering Design Camp program since 2003 to introduce high school students to the use of advanced technology in engineering design.
  • Incorporated Process Oriented Guided-Inquiry Learning (POGIL) into a graduate level Engineering Optimization class.
  • Collaborated on the development and deployment of an afterschool Engineering Club focused on students in grades 3 and 4. The camp created collaborations with elementary science, art, library, and classroom teachers at a school  with a high percentage of free-and-reduced lunch and English language learners.  The camp resulted in greater engagement with and understanding of the engineering design process through the use of age-appropriate hands-on activities developed in collaboration with in-service teachers.
