Having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi, using a VPN or reaching an online service? A new self-service tool from UB Information Technology can give you, and the UBIT Help Center, a clearer picture of what may be happening.

Check Your Internet Connection displays your current IP address and available details about your connection, helping you identify potential issues with Wi-Fi, UB’s VPN, DNS or network speed when your connection is slow, unreliable or behaving unexpectedly.

Create a report for the UBIT Help Center

If you need assistance, Check Your Internet Connection can create a PDF report that you can save and share with the UBIT Help Center. The report gives support staff useful technical details about your connection, which may reduce back-and-forth questions and help them begin troubleshooting more quickly.

To use the tool:

  1. Visit https://myip.buffalo.edu/
  2. Review the available information about your connection.
  3. If you contact the UBIT Help Center, select the option to create a PDF report and attach it to your request when asked.

What to expect

The details shown in Check Your Internet Connection vary by device and network, with more information potentially available when connected to a UB campus network or UB’s VPN. Any location shown is approximate and based on IP address data, not your device’s precise location.

While Check Your Internet Connection does not fix connection problems, it provides a information that may be a starting point for troubleshooting and support.
