When using campus buses and shuttles, following these guidelines will help ensure your safety.

When Waiting and Boarding a Bus

  • Arrive at designated bus stops in advance of scheduled departure times.
  • Stay clear of the bus or shuttle until it comes to a complete stop.
  • When boarding a UB Stampede bus, use the front door. Use handrails and watch your step.
  • If you have a question for the driver, please ask before the bus or shuttle departs; doing so will allow the driver to focus on safe operation of the vehicle.

While On Board

  • Find an available seat and remain seated until the bus or shuttle has fully stopped.
  • If you are standing while the bus is in motion, use a handrail or strap to maintain your balance.
  • Do not block the aisle with books or bags.
  • Never ask the driver to stop at an undesignated bus stop.
  • If you have a comment or concern to express about your ride, note the vehicle ID number at the front of the bus, reach out to Parking and Transportation Services at transportation@buffalo.edu, and tell us about it.

When Exiting a Bus

  • At your stop, gather your belongings (make sure you have everything!*) and wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before standing up.
  • Cross the street behind the bus. This helps you see and be seen by other motorists.
  • If you must cross in front of the bus, walk at least 10 feet ahead of the bus, ensuring the driver can see you.
  • Cross in a marked crosswalk whenever possible.
  • Keep an eye out for oncoming vehicles. Drivers are not required to stop for campus buses and shuttles.

*If you leave something on a bus or shuttle, contact the Parking and Transportation office, 716-645-3943, or email transportation@buffalo.edu. A ‘Lost and Found’ will be checked, or the bus company will be notified, and every effort will be made to reunite you with your belonging(s).
