The Global Innovation Challenge (GIC) is an international event. We aim to further enrich the planning and delivery of the GIC through the involvement of four international students-from both health science and non-health science disciplines (e.g., engineering)-selected to serve as Local-International Global Health Talent (LIGHT) Fellows.
LIGHT Fellows will contribute to diversity awareness and cultural competence in the planning and marketing of the GIC, and will serve as cross-cultural expert advisors who will mentor small working groups of students at the GIC.
Through their engagement in the GIC, LIGHT fellows will:
Participate in mentored, bi-weekly planning meetings that will take place throughout the spring semester. LIGHT Fellows will be engaged with a variety of meaningful tasks, including helping with the selection of inclusive, culturally-relevant background information on this year's GIC "challenge," and designing outreach methods and materials to encourage other international students to enroll in the GIC. As work progresses, the LIGHT Fellows will forge mentor-mentee bonds with CGHE faculty and staff, which will be of social and pre-professional benefit to them.
LIGHT Fellows will be expected to attend the GIC in its entirety, May 20-24, 2019, Monday through Thursday, 8am-5pm and Friday, 8am-1pm. LIGHT Fellows will have occasion to meaningfully engage with and facilitate positive exchanges between domestic and international student participants, and showcase their leadership skills.
The application has closed. We will be announcing 2019 LIGHT Fellows soon.
Perhaps you don't have the time to commit to bi-weekly meetings. You can still participate in the Global Innovation Challenge, May 20-24, 2019! We seek students of all disciplines and levels of study. Learn more about this year's Challenge.
