This pilot project funded by the Community for Global Health Equity addresses 1) the need for health care trainees to understand why the use of interpreters is important, how health communication is enhanced by appropriate interpretation, and the legal justification for provision of trained interpreters for patients with LEP, and 2) interprofessional training, exposure to alternative cultures and the discourse between disciplines to enhance professional trainee collaboration and offer a sustainable mechanism for on-going training in IPE. This project will help to correct an inequity in health care by training interprofessional student participants, hiring refugees from the Buffalo community, and adding the important voice of health communication.
