Benjamin Blanchet (UB student, Class of 2018) is an English major with an interest in journalism. After graduating from UB, he hopes to attend grad school and pursue a career writing about music and the arts. An Albany, NY native, Benjamin enjoys biking and reading in his spare time.

Introduced in June 2017, Box Drive creates a new virtual drive in your device’s file explorer or finder, giving you all the powers of UBbox—like instant, secure backups you can edit anywhere—right from your desktop.

Open and save files to Box Drive just as you would any other folder or drive on your computer. The app also includes a search bar for finding files.

Sharing files through Box Drive is easy: simply right click the file to generate a shareable link or email the file.

I already use Box Sync. Is this different?

Because Box Drive creates a mapped drive to all your online files, it’s best on devices with an Internet connection. Box Sync, a similar program available for UBbox, syncs any files you’ve specifically marked for offline access to your hard drive; it’s also preferable for editing larger-scale media files.

Box recommends that you don’t have both apps installed at the same time, so it’s best to choose the app that best suits your needs.
