REDCap

Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) is a data collection tool for building surveys and databases. It was implemented to assist principal investigators, students, compliance and research administration staff with administering sponsored programs. In this training session, participants will learn how to create a survey using REDCap. You will be given an overview of the software and how to navigate through the different features and functions of the software when participating in research at UB.

An Overview of REDCap

REDCap.

REDCap's streamlined process for rapidly creating and designing projects offers a vast array of tools that can be tailored to virtually any data collection strategy.

REDCap is free to use by Researchers, Staff and Students currently working and/or enrolled at The University at Buffalo. REDCap can be accessed by visiting the following site and may be opened by creating an account using UBIT name and password:

Although REDCap can be programmed for simple surveys, it is also a complex program with many features and tools not readily nor easy to discover.  That is why the OVPRED/RIS (Research Information Systems) offers assistance from a staff of professional programmers well versed in the finer details of REDCap authoring. This service is available to the University community in two ways:

  1. For simple questions about REDCap a user can email the REDCap support group at: redcaphelp@buffalo.edu This service is at no cost to the user.
  2. For those users or projects who wish to have the RIS REDCap help team either be a part of a funded project or have questions that may require a more in-depth response, this service offers assistance at $54.00/per hour on either an ad hoc basis or as part of a line item in a funded budget or submission.  This service also includes integration with UB’s data base (Oracle, SQL) along with applications that can be used in conjunction with REDCap (project tracking, calendaring, and scheduling).  Currently this team of project services is working on several research projects on campus.
