Guiding faculty on responsible research

The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) ensures UB research is conducted without bias and with the highest scientific and ethical standards. We help faculty pursue their goals by overseeing policies including financial conflicts of interest, responsible conduct of research, intellectual and creative activity and export controls.

Accredited to maintain research integrity and protect lives

We affirm that UB meets the highest standards for the protection of the rights and welfare of human research subjects and the humane care of laboratory animals. We’re fully accredited for our research programs by:

  • Association of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP)
  • Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC)

Compliance Training

Many federal and institutional compliance regulations require training, both in person and/or online, often before you are allowed to begin your research.

Federal export control laws are constantly changing and the rules can be complicated. We’ll help you recognize and navigate them to maintain compliance.

Institutional Biosafety Committee

A University Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) has been created in accordance with requirements set forth in the National Institutes of Health "Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules". All research investigations involving recombinant nucleic acids, infectious agents, oncogenic materials or agents and toxins, must be registered with the IBC.
