Ugo Onochie leads the Office of Research Security, a university-wide resource that enables research innovation while safeguarding data, intellectual property and institutional integrity. He works with leadership, faculty and staff to balance data access with robust security and ethical guidelines.

Onochie is an experienced intelligence professional with a background in cybersecurity and threat management. Before joining UB, he served as a research security manager for Rice University, collaborating with leadership, faculty and students to uphold compliance and bolster the university’s research security infrastructure. Prior to Rice, Onochie served in various intelligence roles with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), from developing custom data tools as an analyst to leading the FBI Houston Cyberintelligence Squad.
