Mentoring Subcommittee

Staff Development and Engagement Committee

Our Mission

Have you ever wished someone could assist you with the challenges and opportunities you face professionally?

Do you wish you had the opportunity to gain some insight about UB’s culture or advancing your career at the university?

Do you feel that you have skills and insight that could help a colleague?

The goal of the program is to provide formal or informal mentoring to UB Professional Employees. The program allows protégés to match with mentors from UB’s professional staff who have the experience, knowledge and insight that assists the protégé in meeting their goals. These goals may be in career, leadership or professional development areas, skills/organizational development, project completion, community involvement, exploring issues such as interpersonal relationships or goal setting. Active Mentoring supports employee goals and development, and ultimately, UB’s mission.

If you are interested in learning more about the program or participating in it, utilize the  Professional Staff Senate LinkedIn Group to find and connect with each other.

Once you join this LinkedIn group you will be able to use this group to:

  • Scroll through the list of current group members to see who’s there that you may want to get to connect with or message directly through the group.
  • Post in the group (visible only to other PSS group members) that you are available to connect on LinkedIn and/or be messaged directly in the group if other staff members are interested in setting up a conversation. The conversation could be anything as simple as you answering questions about your career path, or providing insight to a new UB staff member that may find your professional background helpful.
  • Start a conversation in the group by posting a question or sharing information about an upcoming event or insight you would like to share.
  • Look at the past posts in the group and comment by adding any insight or information that other group members may find helpful.
  • Invite other UB staff members to join the group. You can invite any UB staff member that you are connected to on LinkedIn to join the group by clicking on Invite Members in the upper right corner of the group page. If you are connected on LinkedIn with your PSS Protégé be sure to invite them to join the group.
