What would you ask one of the earliest pioneers of computer programming? In recognition of Ada Lovelace Day, UBIT is inviting students, faculty and staff to explore Lovelace’s life and contributions through an AI chatbot powered by BullsAI.

The chatbot is customized with information about Lovelace, who described an algorithm intended for Charles Babbage’s proposed Analytical Engine and is often considered the first computer programmer. Ask questions about her work, her ideas, her place in computing history, and thoughts on modern-day tech topics like AI or cybersecurity.

Ada Lovelace Day, traditionally observed on October 13, is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Visit Davis Hall on October 7

UBIT is holding an event in Davis Hall on October 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in honor of Ada Lovelace Day, which occurs during fall break.

Look for a life-size cutout of Lovelace and try the chatbot on an iPad and explore Lovelace’s contributions to computing. You can also scan an accompanying QR code to interact with the chatbot from your mobile device.

UB Vice President and Chief Information Officer Heath Tuttle will be joining the activity, giving students an opportunity to connect with him and try the interactive experience.

Find Ada at Cybersecurity Family Feud on October 8

The chatbot will also be featured during Cybersecurity Family Feud on October 8 in the Buffalo Room, just down the hall from 1Capen, from 2 to 4 p.m.

You can also explore the chatbot on your own, too. Try the Ada Lovelace chatbot on BullsAI and bring your questions about one of computing’s earliest innovators.
