UB Quantum Institute

Dear Colleagues:

I am very pleased to share that UB is launching the UB Quantum Institute, an exciting new initiative that builds on UB’s strength in quantum-related research as well as previous investments from the Simons Foundation and the SUNY Empire Innovation Program. Through integrated research, education and industry collaboration, this new institute will facilitate interdisciplinary research collaborations, enable next-generation technologies and shape the future of quantum science and technology. The new institute reports to the senior vice president for research, innovation and economic development, Venu Govindaraju. Sambandamurthy Ganapathy, professor of physics and associate dean for research in the College of Arts and Sciences, will serve as interim director while we conduct a search for a permanent director.

As one of the nation’s leading public research universities, it is imperative for UB to stay at the forefront of innovation in the service of the public good. The UB Quantum Institute will serve as a catalyst for future investments, discoveries and innovations and position the university as a leader in quantum science and technology, which has the potential to accelerate advancements across computing, communications, health diagnostics, sensing, electronics, and other fields.
