Below is a list of commonly asked questions and things you need to know about our Summer Bridge Program.
Yes. All incoming EOP students must complete the full 5‑week, in‑person Summer Bridge Program to enroll at UB in the fall. There are no virtual options or exceptions. Students will live on campus for the duration of the program.
Students are expected to remain on the UB North Campus throughout the program. Approved medical exceptions may be granted by EOP staff. Supervised off‑campus outings are included and transportation will be provided.

Full engagement is the key to long-term success at UB. We encourage students to take advantage of campus resources, connect with peers and participate in recreational and social activities.
The program is FREE. Housing, meals and courses are included. Personal expenses are the responsibility of the student/family.
Living on campus provides students with the opportunity to build relationships with peers, learn how to navigate shared living spaces and prepare for residential life in the fall. Students live on campus with randomly assigned same‑sex roommates. Suites may be doubles, triples or quads. Curfews and housing policies are strictly enforced.
Students may bring up to two suitcases. Laundry facilities are FREE. Students must provide their own laundry detergent and are responsible for washing and drying their own clothing. Additional guidance can be found on this items to bring list (PDF).

Free round‑trip transportation is available on a first come, first-served basis for New York City area students (within 1 hour of NYC) and must be requested on the Summer Bridge Registration Form. Early registration is strongly encouraged.
No. Personal vehicles and outside employment are not permitted while attending the program. Summer Bridge is a fully immersive and academically rigorous experience designed to prepare students for success at a top university.
Students earn 6–7 college credits in English 100, Sociology 101 or a Math course. Tutoring, academic success workshops and the Math Readiness Assessment are required.
Admission to UB as an EOP student is conditional upon the successful completion of the Summer Bridge Program. Students who do not meet program requirements may not attend UB in the fall.
Families may visit Sundays between 6–8 p.m., starting July 13. This is the only approved visitation time. Students cannot leave campus during the visit.
Nonemergency care is available through UB Student Health Services. Some services—such as lab work—may involve additional fees. All medical emergencies will be handled at a local hospital emergency room. Students must provide their own health insurance.
