Dear University Community,

We are pleased to report that the search for the next Assistant Vice President-Sponsored Projects Services is now underway. Robert Genco, Distinguished Professor of Oral Biology and Microbiology, and Vice Provost, will provide leadership to the process as chair of the search committee.

The AVP-SPS position has been vacant since the retirement of Dr. Charles Kaars in the summer of 2010.  Because of the importance research plays in the university’s mission, it is essential that we move forward in this search for this leadership position. If you have any input towards the search process that you would like to be considered, please let us know; we value contributions from all of our colleagues.

The search committee is comprised of faculty members and administrators from UB departments who work extensively with Sponsored Projects Services, and who therefore understand the importance that SPS plays in pursuit of our research mission. We are grateful to the members of the search committee for their willingness to assist UB in recruiting an outstanding individual for this important university leadership position. Members of the search committee include:

  • Ann Bisantz, Professor and Chair, Industrial & Systems Engineering; School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
  • Sandra Drabek, Senior Associate Dean, Jacobs School Of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences
  • Charles Mitchell, SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor of Geology and Associate Dean for Research; College of Arts and Sciences
  • Tim Murphy, UB Distinguished Professor, Medicine, Microbiology, and Immunology; Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences
  • Donna Scuto, Assistant Vice President for Policy and Internal Control, University Business Services
  • Kenneth Tramposch, Associate Vice President for Research; Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology; Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences

Under the leadership of Vice Provost Genco, and with the support of the search committee, we have every confidence that our search for the next Assistant Vice President-Sponsored Projects Services will be successful, and that a strong leader of this mission-critical office will be appointed. We hope to have the new AVP in place during the current academic year.

Sincerely,

Alexander N. Cartwright

Vice President for Research and Economic Development
