NYS Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Incentive Program

The NYS STEM Incentive Program provides a full SUNY or CUNY tuition scholarship to the top 10 percent of students in each New York State high school if they pursue a STEM degree in an associate or bachelor's degree program and agree to work in a STEM field in New York State for five years after graduation.

Eligibility

  • NYS resident
  • U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Enrolled full time at a beginning with the fall term following his or her high school graduation
  • Ranked in the top 10% of his/her high school graduating class of a NYS high school
  • Completed a TAP application, in addition to the STEM application
  • Matriculated in an undergraduate program leading to a degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The following programs of study (PDF) may be eligible for a STEM award.
  • Enrolled in at least 12 credit hours that are applicable toward an approved STEM degree program.
  • Earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher each term after the first semester

The deadline for the NYS Incentive STEM Program is August 15, 2026 for the 2026-27 academic year.

Award Information

Covers tuition expenses at a SUNY or CUNY college.

  • Award is equal to the undergraduate resident tuition rate at a SUNY state-operated campus or actual tuition, whichever is less. 
  • Awards are reduced by the amount of other tuition assistance awards received, such as NYS TAP.
  • This scholarship covers the full cost of tuition at a state-operated SUNY or CUNY college.  Applicants seeking to apply for the NYS Excelsior scholarship OR the NYS Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Incentive Program scholarship OR the NYS Math & Science Teaching Incentive Program scholarship should carefully review the requirements for all programs, including post-graduation requirements, and determine which scholarship they may be eligible and will apply for, and upon eligibility notification, will accept by completing a service agreement.  Applicants are not eligible to receive more than one full tuition-based scholarship in an academic year.
