Federal Work-Study Program

The Federal Work-Study program offers part-time job opportunities on campus and with approved community organizations to students who demonstrate financial need. If you're eligible, you can choose from a variety of positions that match your interests, skills and career goals.

  • You’ll earn an hourly wage and receive biweekly paychecks for hours worked.
  • Work-study earnings are not applied to your student account—you receive them directly.

Eligibility

Federal Work-Study eligibility is determined each year based on your FAFSA and financial need. Funding and job availability are limited, so positions are not guaranteed annually.

To qualify, you must:

Finding an On-Campus Job

Search for available positions in Bullseye powered by Handshake, UB’s job posting platform. Departments post openings as needed.

  • You can only work for one department under this program.
  • You’re encouraged to apply even if you weren’t awarded work-study—some positions may still be available.

If you’re offered and accept a work-study award:

  • You’ll receive an email at your @buffalo.edu address with next steps starting in August (or about a week after accepting if later in the semester).
  • The email will include your appointment form, which must be printed and given to your supervisor before the deadline listed.
  • Your supervisor will submit the form and required documents to UB’s payroll and HR departments.

Keep Your Info Updated

If your address changes, be sure to update it in the university system to avoid delays in payment.
