III. The Promotion Dossier

Section A. Departmental Preparation and Review

PART I of Section A (Available to Candidate)

III.A.I.9. Teaching Evaluations

The dossier can include multiple indicators of success to present a comprehensive picture of the candidate’s teaching effectiveness. Suggested methods to assess teaching effectiveness are available on the Office of Curriculum, Assessment and Teaching Transformation website.

The results of course/teaching evaluations by students should be included in the dossier and presented in a standardized summary or tabular form, with an analysis of the summary as part of the Chair’s letter.  Raw data should not be included but should be available for inspection in the department.

Letters from current and former students (in addition to those solicited for Item 10), letters from current and former Course Directors, co-Instructors or teaching peers, (in addition to those solicited for Item 10), reports of student or faculty teaching evaluation committees, the placement and career record of former students, and similar materials may be included here. These materials should be evaluative of the Candidate’s overall teaching skills, including the Candidate’s ability to engage students in the learning process. These should not be redundant of materials selected for the Teaching Portfolio (see Item 8), and should be formatted according to a year-by-year chronology.
