The sequential dossier review process is represented below and specifies when the candidate receives communiques regarding the review.

Communication Note: Faculty candidate receives communication with vote outcome or recommendation at each step marked with the envelope icon.

1 Department Review and Recommendation
2 Department Chair’s Review and Recommendation Faculty candidate receives communication at this step.
3 School/Unit Promotions Committee Review and Recommendation
4 Dean’s Review and Recommendation Faculty candidate receives communication at this step.
5 President's Review Board (PRB) Review and Recommendation Faculty candidate receives communication at this step.
6 UB Provost Review and Recommendation Faculty candidate receives communication at this step.
7 UB President Review and Recommendation/Decision Faculty candidate receives communication at this step.
Note
The review process ends with the President’s letter for already-tenured faculty.
8 SUNY Chancellor Faculty candidate receives communication at this step.
Note
The review process ends with the Chancellor's letter for faculty being awarded tenure. The Chancellor's decision is predicated on the candidate meeting all requirements for continuing appointment, including requirements concerning U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
