Promotion and tenure review is an evaluation of three areas: your research/scholarly/creative work, teaching and mentoring, and service contributions. These are evaluated in relation to UB’s and your department’s/school’s standards, along with your discipline’s expectations.

Preparing a promotion and tenure dossier is a critical and demanding process and one that carries significance for the faculty, your department and school, UB and your discipline.

As Dean, you or a designee convene the unit-level Appointment, Promotion & Tenure committee (APT) meeting, which adheres to rank-on-rank voting and follows school/unit bylaws/standards.

As an Advocate, you serve as the faculty's designated representative throughout the promotion review process.

The President's Review Board (PRB) is the faculty advisory body to the President and Provost on matters of appointments, promotion, and tenure at UB.

Faculty may request a stoppage of the clock toward continuing appointment (tenure) for any of the reasons specified below by submitting the appropriate form for the basis of your request and your appointment type.
