Promotion and tenure review is an evaluation of three areas: your research/scholarly/creative work, teaching and mentoring, and service contributions. These are evaluated in relation to UB’s and your department’s/school’s standards, along with your discipline’s expectations. Your accomplishments, independence, trajectory, reputation and fit within the university’s mission will be assessed.
describe your teaching philosophy and approach to education, teaching innovations, training accomplishments, related scholarly output and range of courses and levels taught and highlight teaching awards.
provide a concise description of your professional contributions and leadership roles; and address the three UB-recognized categories of service in order of importance: Professional/Public Service, University Service, and Community Service
approximately 20 pages total including your Teaching Statement
consists of selective course materials and examples of innovative teaching developments that reflect your most important teaching accomplishments, strengths and goals.
Student/Trainee letters
Provide the names and email addresses of 4-6 former students/trainees; your Chair solicits teaching and mentoring impact letters
Collaborator Letters
Provide the names and email addresses of 6-8 collaborators; your Chair solicits collaborator letters
External Evaluator exclusions
Provide the names of any individuals whom your Chair should not solicit as external evaluators
You may opt to identify an advocate if you believe that your case will be strengthened or more fully presented. There is no negative connotation associated with having an Advocate
Ideally, you should select an Advocate at the start of the dossier process so the Advocate may contribute at the fullest level. However, you may elect to have an Advocate at any point during the review process prior to the Provost’s review of your dossier
