Drug Development
The Drug Development Core brings together the expertise of the University at Buffalo and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center to provide a resource (including training) in preclinical and early clinical development for novel compounds for investigators.
We provide a centralized resource for preclinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamics and early phase clinical trial design, conduct and management.

1. Provide mentoring for faculty and industry in drug development and clinical therapeutics research
- Drug Development Core Request Form: Consultation for grants, protocols, assays and data analysis
- Key drug development topics presented in workshop format
- One-month scholar periods for external CTSI faculty members at Buffalo Translational Consortium (BTC) institutions
- KL2 Scholar sessions on Topics in Drug Development and Translational Pharmacology
2. Provide a centralized core for linking faculty to drug development expertise and CTSI core laboratories
- Preclinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics
- Phase I/II clinical pharmacology design, conduct, and management
- Facilitate awareness of core laboratory facilities
- Faculty programs in similar research areas
- Promote optimal use of core laboratories and programs
- User friendly web portal to invite faculty and industry to engage with Drug Development Core
- Invite CTSI faculty members as “Drug Development Core Resource Faculty” to provide expertise, consultation and, as appropriate, direct participation in research projects
- Engage other UB and Roswell Park resource cores to offer facilities through Drug Development Core
- Plan drug development and translational pharmacology research workshops in conjunction with CTSI Workforce Development Core curriculum
- Provide UB and Roswell Park co-sponsored “Home Brewed Drugs and the Drug Development Process” seminar programs
- Provide additional Drug Development Core lectures with visiting national and international faculty
- Plan to meet with external organizations that will potentially use the core
- Promote new collaborations using working groups with common drug development interests
- Contribute to grant applications with drug development components
- Integrating drug development core collaborators with biomarker research
- Collaborate with other CTSIs with drug development interests
