Who Can I Live With?

Living with your friends can be one of the best experiences of your life. At UB, we make it easy for you to choose your roommates, whether you’re living in the residence halls or on-campus apartments.

New & Transfer Students

If you are a new student at UB or a transfer student here, you can request a specific roommate during the application process. Preferences are honored on a space available and eligibility base. Each member of the group group must:

  • Make the required deposit(s) before the deposit deadline
  • Meet eligibility requirements for their desired living area

Roommate Requests

Roommate requests must be mutual with all roommates indicating each other by the preference deadline. Please note that not all students are eligible to live in all areas.

Even if you are not paired with your requested roommates, all students who submit their housing deposit (and, for new and transfer students, their tuition deposit) by the deadline are guaranteed on-campus housing.

How To Choose Your Roommate(s)

  • When you apply, you will have the opportunity to list your preference for roommates.
  • If you do not request a specific roommate, we will be happy to match you with someone.
  • You are strongly encouraged to identify several roommate options in case your initial group size request is not available.
Send In Your Deposits Early

The earlier you and your roommate(s) send in your housing and tuition deposits, the more likely you are to be paired together.

Current Students

Current students can request a specific roommate during the application process.
Each member of the group group must:

  • Make the required deposit(s) before the deposit deadline
  • Meet eligibility requirements for his or her desired living area

Roommate requests must be mutual with all roommates indicating each other during the application process. Please note that not all students are eligible to live in all areas.

Roommate Requests

Even if you are not paired with your requested roommates, all current students who submit their housing deposit by the deadline are guaranteed on-campus housing. If you do not request a specific roommate, we will be happy to match you with someone based on your eligibility and housing preferences.

How To Choose Your Roommate(s)

  • When current students apply, every student who submits a deposit will receive a housing reservation number.
  • The person with the best (lowest) housing reservation number will go online during his or her selection window/appointment time and reserve the room or apartment.
  • At this time, he or she will be able to “pull in” as many roommates as the room or apartment has space available for.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to identify several roommate options in case your initial group size request is not available.

Family & Couple Housing

For graduate and professional students, Flickinger Court Apartments offer family-friendly housing. Only one person needs to be a student at UB (contact us for details), and units can be rented as same-sex units or as gender-inclusive units.

Gender-Inclusive Housing

UB offers gender-inclusive housing areas in select residence halls and apartments. In these communities, students are welcome to have roommates of different genders in the same room.
