The fall semester saw students return to normal university operations with a renewed sense of True Blue Spirit on campus.

WELLNESS READY — TAKING CARE

With the August opening of the new Student Health Services facility at 4350 Maple Road, students immediately benefitted from a new enhanced health clinic and updated pharmacy. Additionally, 1,298 students participated in a self-care event hosted by Counseling Services and Health Promotion in support of mental health awareness programming.

CREATING A TRUE BLUE COMMUNITY

4,000+ new students created their own True Blue moment by forming the iconic interlocking UB on the UB Stadium field as part of the New Student Welcome during opening week. 

BANDING TOGETHER IN A TRUE BLUE MOMENT

For the first time in their storied history, the Thunder of the East Marching Band performed at halftime of the Buffalo Bills home opener on September 19 in front of over 70,000 fans. A Monday night football experience the band will never forget.

HOMECOMING WIN!

UB football beats Miami (OH) 24-20.

WE ARE FAMILY

Thousands of students, alumni and families attended October’s Homecoming and Family Weekend. Student Life hosted special events including a sold-out pregame tailgate party and helped sell over 1,000 tickets to the game.

COVID-19 significantly changed the way Student Life delivers the UB Student Experience. Finding new, innovative programming became the catalyst to connect students in a virtual and in person learning environment. 

Getting Started: Summer Orientation

Orientation, Transition and Parent Programs pivoted to an online-only Orientation

  • 5,373 first year and transfer students completed online Orientation.

A One Stop Virtual Resource: New Online Student Guide

Launched in June, this website provided a one-stop source for navigating campus both virtually, or in person.

  • 43K+ unique views

Multimedia that Delivered: New Health and Safety Videos and Social Content

  • 130K reach on UB Student Experience social platforms
  • 2,000+  direct video views

Virtually Connecting Students with Jobs

Career Services adjusted to a remote format to support career advisement and mentoring.

  • 1,300+ remote career coaching and job search appointments

Welcome Weekend – Aug. 28-30

  • 2,000+ students participated in a virtual involvement fair, an in-person ‘Stronger Together’ mask tie-dying activity and a new student ready set Buffalo event. 
  • 50+ hybrid, virtual and in-person events.

Promoting Wellness: On site and Online

  • 20,000 masks distributed to students
  • 14,300 students completed the Alcohol EDU and/or the Sexual Assault Prevention Courses.
  • Students attended 696 Health Services appointments and 635 Counseling Services teletherapy sessions in the first three weeks of the semester. 

Reimagining the Dining Experience

Campus Dining implemented a new reservation system and mobile order app

  • In September, over 20,000 online reservations were made for Crossroads Culinary Center (C3) and over 27,000 meals were ordered on the GET app.

Homecoming at Home

Family Weekend – Oct. 5-10

The UB Alumni Association and Student Life presented the first ever virtual homecoming, with thousands of program engagements, including an online performance by the Marching Band.

  • 5,000+ students and family members attended the UB Carnival and spirit rally bonfire
  • 750+ students and family members took part in the VIP tailgate at Stampede Square
  • The Bulls played in front of a sold out parent and family section with 1,625 tickets sold
  • 7,891 total engagements in family weekend activities
