Before enrolling, students must do one of the following:

A new non-degree student application is required if there was a break in the student’s prior non-degree enrollment.

Graduate Students

  • To be a non-degree graduate student, you must hold a bachelor’s degree to register for graduate coursework as a non-degree student.
  • Students enrolled in graduate programs at other universities or students who have completed a baccalaureate degree may register as non-degree students. Non-degree students must first secure the appropriate department or faculty member’s approval for each graduate-level course.

View Available Courses

To view available courses for a term, students can access UB’s public class schedule.

  • Admitted non-degree-seeking students are initially considered out-of-state residents for tuition purposes. To update this status, supporting documentation is required.
  • All non-degree-seeking students will be billed out-of-state tuition until New York State residency documents have been provided to the Office of the Registrar for review.
  • All issues regarding residency should be resolved by the first day of classes. Exceptions may be made for certain circumstances.

A UBITName and password will be required to access many university resources, including the personal student account, which students will use for enrollment.

New Students Will Receive Instructions via Email

When a student’s application has been approved and processed, they will receive two email communications:

  • An email with instructions on how to log back into the application status portal to retrieve their UB person number.
  • An email with their UBITName and temporary, single-use password to log into HUB.

Activate a UBITName

If a student has their UBITName and temporary, single-use password, they can activate their UBITName. Once activated, students can use their UBITName to access UB’s online services.

Students Who Previously Applied to or Attended UB

If a student has previously applied to or attended UB, they will use their existing username and password to log into HUB. If they do not remember this information they should contact the UBIT Help Desk.

  • Immunization information provided to UB will differ for new and returning non-degree students based on:
    • The term/semester.
    • Number of enrolled credits.
    • Instruction type (in-person, online) for courses.
  • Students cannot enroll until their immunization information has been processed.
  • Exemptions may be granted for measles, mumps and rubella immunizations.

Students planning to register for courses during a future term or semester must comply with immunization requirements prior to the next registration period.

Undergraduate Students

A non-degree undergraduate student must follow all of the university policies.

International Undergraduate Students

Please note that UB will not offer visa support for non-degree applicants. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct visa for study at UB.

English Proficiency

English language proficiency must be sufficient so that you can successfully complete university classes. In the application form, answer the questions about your English proficiency and submit the required documentation.

Graduate Students

Students with bachelor’s degrees can register for graduate coursework as non-matriculated students for a maximum of 12 credit hours.

  • Once registration reaches 12 credit hours a hold will be placed on the student’s academic record by the Graduate School prohibiting further registration until the student matriculates into a graduate degree program.
  • Contact the individual department for more information.
  • Additional policies and procedures are available on the Graduate School website.

Tuition and Fees

Students should review tuition and fee information and financial liability deadlines for any courses they register for.

Non-degree students are not eligible for online tuition rates and will be charged at the standard rate based on residency status, regardless of course modality. Financial aid is not available for non-degree-seeking students.

When students have completed their holds and to-do items, they can register for classes via the HUB Student Center.

Courses with Prerequisites: Submit a Force Registration Request
