Fitness Classes

UB Recreation offers free weekly fitness classes at Alumni Arena on North Campus, running throughout the semester in alignment with the academic calendar.

These classes are exclusively for UB undergraduate and graduate students.

Explore new ways to move with our welcoming instructors and find what works for you.

  • Classes are first come, first served with no registration required.
  • Wear clothing that allows you to move comfortably.
  • Bring a personal mat for Pilates, yoga, or core-based classes.

UB Faculty/Staff Wellness Classes

These free, semester-long classes improve cardiovascular fitness, endurance, and balance.

ResFit (Residential Fitness)

ResFit is a network of residence hall fitness centers managed by Campus Living, offering convenient workout spaces located directly within UB’s residential communities. These facilities include cardio equipment, free weights, and access to group fitness classes, making it easy for students to stay active where they live.

In today’s world, it's easy to treat fitness as an afterthought. With classes, studying, and screen time consuming our daily lives, physical activity often gets overlooked. But here’s the thing, your body is meant to move.

At UB Recreation, we’re bringing personal training back as a workshop with more research-based practices and modern approaches to exercise. Our trained staff use updated assessment methods and programming to build individualized plans that are tailored to your fitness level and goals. We want you to see you make progress and maximize your results so you can build habits that last beyond college.

Lessons

NEW! Pickleball Lessons

New to Pickleball?

This introductory lesson series is the perfect place to start! Designed for beginners, these lessons will cover the fundamentals of the game in a fun, supportive, and active environment. Participants will learn basic rules, scoring, court positioning, and essential skills such as serving, returning, dinking, and volleying.

No prior experience is necessary—just bring your paddles and a willingness to learn. By the end of the session, you’ll feel confident stepping onto the court and joining in on recreational play.

Come see why pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country!

  • There are no lesson refunds for personal absence (illness, vacation, etc.).
  • Makeups will be offered if a lesson is cancelled prior to the scheduled start due to either weather or instructor illness.  Makeup dates are selected based on the availability of the instructor. If you are unable to participate in a make up class, the class is not refundable.
  • Communication about class cancelations and makeup is provided through email.

  • Parking: Richmond Parking Lot
  • Group Size: maximum of 8 participants in each group
  • Please bring to each lesson: a personal pickleball paddle, water bottle, sneakers, and appropriate clothing

Tennis Lessons

Are Your Ready to Learn Tennis from a Pro?

We are pleased to offer adult (18+) group tennis lessons at the Ellicott Tennis Courts. The 6-week program covers fundamental skills, including:

  • strokes
  • strategy
  • rules
  • scoring
  • etiquette
  • drills
  • singles/doubles play

Advanced players will receive guidance on spin, court positioning, footwork, and strategies. Join us to enhance your tennis proficiency and enjoy a comprehensive learning experience!

  • There are no lesson refunds for personal absence (illness, vacation, etc.).
