Bies Named 2026 Recipient of Hartmut Derendorf Mentorship in Clinical Pharmacology Award

Robert R. Bies, PharmD, PhD, professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and associate dean for graduate education, has been named the 2026 recipient of the Hartmut Derendorf Mentorship in Clinical Pharmacology Award from the American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP).

Recipients of the Hartmut Derendorf Mentorship in Clinical Pharmacology Award are recognized for demonstrating exemplary promotion of clinical pharmacology, with emphasis on training and guidance of junior scientists and colleagues.

Bies is a researcher and educator whose work centers on pharmacometrics, disease and therapeutic response modeling, and computational approaches to optimize drug therapy. He has mentored over 26 graduate students throughout his career at the University at Buffalo, University of Pittsburgh and the Indiana University School of Medicine, many of whom have gone on to positions in regulatory agencies, academia and industry.

He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics: Pharmacometrics and Systems Pharmacology, Clinical and Translational Sciences, the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. He is a member of the International Society of Pharmacometrics (ISoP), ACCP and the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and is a Fellow of ISoP.

Bies will be formally recognized at the 2026 ACCP Annual Meeting in North Bethesda, Md., this September.
