Message to Faculty and Staff

Published September 13, 2019

Dear Colleagues:

The beginning of the fall semester has always been my favorite time on campus. The university is infused with energy and excitement brought by returning and new students, faculty and staff to the new academic year.

I am writing to you this fall with mixed emotions. As President Tripathi shared with you last month, I will soon be leaving Buffalo for the University of Southern California to approach a new set of opportunities.

While my wife, Barbara, and I are saddened to be saying goodbye to our many colleagues and friends in Buffalo, I am heartened by the fact that I am leaving while UB is advancing with tremendous momentum and energy on our mission and goals, addressing the educational and research needs of our region, nation and world. Under President Tripathi’s leadership and as a university community, together we have accomplished a great deal. I am most proud of the sense of community we have built through our collaborative and interdisciplinary research, education and academic support initiatives.

I am humbled by the heartwarming well wishes I have received from the UB community, which only confirms what I already know about the incredible generosity and kindness of the university and its wider communities.

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to the university’s success over the last seven years and I wish each of you nothing but great success in the future.

Sincerely,

Chip
