Dear University Community,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. John J. Wood as Interim Vice Provost for International Education, effective September 1, 2018. He will succeed Dr. Stephen C. Dunnett in this role.

Dr. Wood has served as Senior Associate Vice Provost for International Education since 2003 and has been extensively involved in all the functional areas of international education. Among his responsibilities is overseeing university-wide international affiliations and exchange programs. This includes working with faculty to develop new international programs, supervising the Study Abroad Programs office, and administering the university’s overseas degree programs, including ensuring their compliance with university and accreditation standards.

A leader in international education at UB, Dr. Wood is frequently invited to serve on SUNY and university committees. He is convener of UB’s Council on International Studies and Programs, a university-wide faculty advisory group that provides ongoing input to the Provost and Vice Provost on international policies, programs and initiatives.

Dr. Wood holds a PhD in English from UB and he has presented and published widely on international education. He has had a prominent role in professional associations such as the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) and the European Association of International Education (EAIE), and previously served as a member-at-large of the Educational Testing Service’s Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Board.

Sincerely,
