Colleagues:

You are invited to participate in a Communities of Excellence Conference on Thursday, September 14th from 8:30 AM-2:00 PM at the Center for the Arts (CFA), UB’s North Campus.

At this conference, the three Communities of Excellence will present their two-year accomplishments and progress to date, as part of their second-year review. Conference registration and breakfast will begin at 8:00 AM, followed by an introduction by Provost Zukoski in the CFA Drama Theatre (8:30 AM), Communities of Excellence presentations in parallel sessions (9:00 AM-12:00 PM), and lunch and poster session (12:00-2:00 PM). We encourage you to attend. Please register at https://ub_coe_2017.eventbrite.com.

The three Communities of Excellence – The Genome, the Environment and the Microbiome (GEM), Global Health Equity (CGHE), and Sustainable Manufacturing and Advanced Robotic Technologies (SMART) – were established in June 2015 to enable impactful interdisciplinary research, education and engagement in response to major problems that face our region and world. Over the last two years, the Communities have harnessed UB’s strengths and brought together faculty and students from across the university for cross-disciplinary conversations and collaborations that have generated innovative research, scholarship, education and engagement.

Chitra Rajan, Associate Vice President for Research Advancement, is available to answer questions via chitrara@buffalo.edu.

We look forward to seeing you on September 14.

Sincerely,

Charles F. Zukoski
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs

Venu Govindaraju
Vice President for Research and Economic Development
