Dear University Community:

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Paul E. Tesluk, Donald S. Carmichael Professor of Organizational Behavior, as Dean of the School of Management, effective April 25. Dr. Tesluk has served as Interim Dean since July 2015.

Dr. Tesluk’s appointment results from an extensive international search that produced a highly competitive pool of candidates. Dr. Tesluk brings to this role impressive scholarly accomplishments, significant leadership experience and expertise, and a clear vision for furthering the school’s mission of advancing the global practice of management through research, education and service.

An internationally recognized expert in leadership development, team design and effectiveness, and organizational climate and performance, Dr. Tesluk is a prolific scholar who has published in and served on the editorial boards of several of the most selective journals in his field. Dr. Tesluk works with numerous private and public organizations in research, consulting, and teaching capacities, and his research has been supported by agencies such as the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Tesluk led the creation of UB’s Center for Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness (CLOE) – which advances research, education, and outreach in leadership and organizational effectiveness – and served as its first Academic Director.  Prior to his appointment as Interim Dean, Dr. Tesluk served as Chair of the Department of Organization and Human Resources.

Dr. Tesluk is an elected Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and Society for Organizational Behavior. He also recently served an elected term on the Executive Committee of the Organizational Behavior Division of the Academy of Management. In 2014, he received a UB Exceptional Scholar Sustained Achievement Award.

Dr. Tesluk was recruited from the University of Maryland, College Park to join UB as Donald S. Carmichael Professor of Organizational Behavior in 2011. At the University of Maryland, Dr. Tesluk served as Chair of the Department of Management and Organization from 2008 to 2011 and Co-Director of the Center for Leadership, Innovation and Change from 2010 to 2011. He holds a PhD and master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from the Pennsylvania State University and a bachelor’s degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Dean Liesl Folks and all of the members of the search committee for their outstanding service, which was vital to the successful outcome of this search. For more details on this appointment, please view the full announcement here.
