On February 4, 2026, faculty, students and industry partners gathered for a supply chain breakfast sponsored by the Institute for Supply Management to learn about an ongoing electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing project. The project is led by the University at Buffalo School of Management’s Center for Supply Chain Analytics in collaboration with the Stephen Still Institute for Sustainable Transportation and Logistics.
The discussion highlighted work by faculty and student teams to identify opportunities for reshoring and examined what the transition to electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles means for New York manufacturers.
The team also shared findings from a newly released report, EV Growth in Western New York, which identifies EV components that can be produced in-state and estimates potential impact on jobs and long-term competitiveness. The report finds that many firms are well positioned to pivot, while others face increasing risk if they remain focused solely on internal combustion engine markets.
