New York State Scholarships

Hundreds of UB students come to campus with thousands of dollars in scholarships from New York State and regional organizations.

New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC)

The New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) offers a variety of financial aid scholarships to help students pay for college.

Visit HESC for the current list of offered awards, as well as eligibility requirements and application instructions.

Use UB’s State School Codes below on your applications when required:

  • Undergraduate Students: 1010
  • Graduate & Professional Students: 5130

Excelsior Scholarship Program

Students from families earning $125,000 or less can attend a state-operated SUNY or CUNY college tuition-free. To qualify you must:
  • Have an adjusted combined federal household income of $125,000 or less.
  • Be pursuing an undergraduate degree at a SUNY or CUNY college or university.
  • Be enrolled in full-time study (at least 12 credits per term in your program of study).
  • Complete at least 30 credits per year in your program of study.
  • Live and work in New York State for a duration equal to the number of years you received the scholarship.
