Health Professions Loans

Federal Health Professions Student Loans are low-interest, federally subsidized loans available to full-time pharmacy and dental students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be full-time pharmacy or dental students enrolled in at least 12 credit hours each semester.
  • Demonstrate financial need through the Health Professions Loan income verification process.

Loan Details

  • Subsidized: No interest accrues while you're enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours).
  • Interest Rate: 5% annually, starting 12 months after graduation or if you drop below full-time enrollment.
  • Repayment: Begins after the grace period and must be completed within 10 years, excluding approved deferments.

What You Need to Do

  • Provide parental income information, even if considered independent for other aid.
  • Complete all required loan disclosures, including:
    • Self-certification
    • Master Promissory Note
    • Truth-in-lending documents
    • Entrance and exit counseling

Loans will be automatically canceled if eligibility requirements are not met or paperwork is not completed by the deadlines below.

  • Fall Deadline: October 15
  • Spring Deadline: March 1
