This research project will engage urban Black and Brown youth in a transformative informal STEM learning experience centered on the medium of the bike and biking. Specifically, cohorts of youth—rising ninth and tenth graders—will be recruited from within the City of Buffalo, NY, to participate in culturally sustaining, place-based science and engineering activities during a two-week summer institute and three fall and two spring Saturday sessions.
The specific outcomes of this project will be identified by the faculty mentor at the beginning of your collaboration.
This research project centers on questions related to students' understandings of core science and engineering concepts, and their STEM identity development.
