REDfly: A Regulatory Element Database for Drosophila
REDfly is a curated collection of known Drosophila transcriptional cis-regulatory modules (CRMs) and transcription factor binding sites (TFBSs). Despite more than 20 years of experimental determination of these elements, the data have never been collected into a single searchable database. REDfly seeks to include all experimentally verified fly regulatory elements along with their DNA sequence, their associated genes, and the expression patterns they direct. Expression patterns are annotated using a defined anatomy ontology to enable high interoperability with FlyBase, FlyExpress, the BDGP in situ hybridization database, and other model organism resources. REDfly currently has 5547 CRMs associated with 547 genes, and 2051 TFBSs bound by 158 transcription factors acting on 209 target genes. These data are based on 671 curated publications.
This ongoing collaboration between Dr. Marc Halfon (Department of Biochemistry) and CCR began in 2005 and has become a valuable tool to the research community. To date, REDfly has produced three publications that have received 114 citations and is supported by NSF award DBI-1355511.
