Institutional Assessment Council

The Institutional Assessment Council serves as an advisory body for the Office of Curriculum, Assessment and Teaching Transformation. The Council provides recommendations and guidance regarding: the assessment of student learning outcomes in programs across the university, professional development for faculty and staff in the areas of assessment and continuous improvement, and recognition of best practices and excellent assessment work.  Further, the Institutional Assessment Council reviews, refines, and promulgates institutional learning outcomes (ILOs), reviews and interprets aggregate data relating to the achievement of these learning outcomes, and makes recommendations for necessary improvements.

Specifically, the Council:

  • Leads institution-wide assessment initiatives;
  • Proposes institutional policy in the area of student learning assessment;
  • Collects and disseminates information regarding best practices in student learning assessment;
  • Identifies professional development needs in the area of assessment and recommends appropriate strategies for addressing these needs;
  • Reviews institutional assessment progress and makes recommendations for improvement; and
  • Sponsors recognition activities to support and showcases programs and individuals engaged in effective assessment practices.
