Institutional Learning Outcomes

Institutional learning outcomes were etsablished in 2014 in the Realizing UB 2020 report.  The Office of Curriculum, Assessment and Teaching Transformation, in collaboration with the Institutional Assessment Council, compiles assessment data to demonstrate student achievement of these outcomes.

Institutional Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of their academic programs at UB, students will:

  1. Demonstrate domain expertise, including critical reasoning and analysis.
  2. Apply effective communication, information, and digital literacy skills.
  3. Demonstrate ethical and professional responsibility and act according to the norms of the chosen discipline.
  4. Recognize the relevance of human and cultural diversity within local and global contexts.
  5. Collaborate positively with others to achieve a common purpose.
  6. Assess, articulate, and acknowledge personal skills, abilities and growth areas.
  7. Demonstrate commitment to community service and engagement.

Assessing Institutional Learning Outcomes

During the 2019-20 academic year, our office and the Institutional Assessment Council developed a plan to assess student achievement of these outcomes.

Since then, CATT assessment staff have been working with the Institutional Assessment Council to help program coordinators map program learning outcomes to institutional learning outcomes. As of fall 2023, 76.0% of programs have these mappings in place. Starting in the 2024-25 academic year, program assessment data, as well as additional data sources, will be compiled to review achievement of each institutional learning outcome. Results will be posted on this webpage.
